October Newsletter: Seasonal ingredients, fall flavors, Turmeric vs. RX', and fall smells.

Happy fall! It's time for apples, pumpkins, cinnamon and other warming spices, and fall produce at the market. You know the seasons are changing when the stone fruit disappears and the bins fill with beautiful apples and pears.

Get ready for cookng with winter squashes like butternut, acorn, and spaghetti squash. Also at their best is arugula, beets, kale and cauliflower, and lesser cooked with parsnips (great pureed) and rutabagas (good cut into chunks and roasted with chicken).

Best Fall Recipes

If you need suggestions on transitioning your summer kitchen to fall flavors, here is a link to my new Best Fall Recipes category for a little inspiration. Try a pumpkin pie smoothie for breakfast, a bowl of creamy cauliflower soup with roasted garlic and a salad for lunch, or maybe turkey and quinoa stuffed peppers for dinner. For a snack, try a slice of this pumpkin snack cake with chocolate chips.

The Power of Turmeric

Since oranges and golds are the color of fall, here's a terrific article confirming the power of turmeric, in fact as powerful as 14 drugs. I can attest to it. Turmeric is one of the most thoroughly researched plants in existence today. Its medicinal properties and components (primarily curcumin) have been the subject of more than 12,000 peer-reviewed and published biomedical studies. Read the article here (this publication has a terrific health section). If you have a problem with this link please let me know.

Sautéed Mixed Vegetables

Here's a tasty recipe to help bridge the summer to fall weather; sautéed mixed vegetables. I just refreshed and republished this recipe with ideas on how to vary the veggies through the year with what's available. Its a good way to get more vegetables onto your plates.

A House That Smells Like Fall

Here's a fun article on 7 ways to make your house smell like fall. What to put in simmer pots, making fall room sprays, and a diffuser recipe with essential oils like cinnamon, clove, orange, ginger, and more.

If you've made any of my recipes, would you take a moment and please give them a star rating? It's on the recipe card area (and I hope they are 5 stars). The almighty Google likes them and I'm working hard to improve my site. And if this is helpful, please forward to a friend!

Signing off for now, stay healthy and happy cooking (and eating!). However I can be of help and support in your journey please let me know.
